Stand Up Paddle Boarding (SUP) Checklist

Going out on the water? Whether it’s your first time recreationally paddleboarding on calm water or going on a full-day adventure, we’ve got you covered. Read our checklist to make sure you have everything you need. 

 

Essential Gear

 

Stand up paddleboard (SUP)

SUP paddle

Lifejacket or personal flotation device (PFD)

Pump (for inflatable SUP)

Fin(s) for SUP

SUP leash

Safety whistle and first aid kit 

Headlamp or flashlight (required if paddling after sundown)

 

Recommended Personal Items 

Sunscreen 

Lip Balm 

Water bottle 

Snacks 

Cellphone in protective bag/case 

Insect repellent (as needed) 

Towel 

 

Clothing and Footwear

Note: Make sure to dress for the water temperature and not the air temperature.

For warm weather and warm water (<70°F), wear clothing that dries quickly: 

Rashguard 

Board shorts or swimsuit 

Water shoes, neoprene booties, or sandals

Sun-shielding hat 

 

For cold weather and/or cold water (<60°F), wear clothing that insulates:

Neoprene top and shorts or wetsuit 

Paddling gloves 

Wool/synthetic cap 

Wool/synthetic socks
