YOGAqua was founded by Sarah Tiefenthaler in July 2011 in Marina Del Rey, CA and has since opened a second location in Ventura, CA in 2018.

Sarah Tiefenthaler completed her first 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training in the tropical jungles of Costa Rica where she focused intensely on the philosophy of yoga as well as meditation practices. Just as soon as she returned to Los Angeles, Sarah enrolled in her second 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training certification in Hollywood, CA at Earth’s Power Yoga where she was able to expand her knowledge of human anatomy and alignment in relation to yoga.

After spending day after day in the magnificence of the Costa Rican jungle, Sarah still longed for any activity in which she could maintain a consistent presence in nature. And with that in mind, upon her return home, she soon discovered her passion for Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) as it was the perfect solution that would keep her out in nature, on the water, and under the sun.

With her obvious passion for yoga, it was not long before she began to experiment with yoga poses on the boards which was just the spark that very quickly led to the creation of YOGAqua. Sarah spent day after day customizing yoga poses and sequences for the SUP boards, making it all possible and beneficial being performed on the water. She also frequented a local boat supply store searching for the right anchoring equipment that would keep her students safe from the dangers of free floating in a busy harbor-she even took classes on splicing ropes and tying knots! And at the same time, she was working to build a team of amazing instructors.

YOGAqua was launched on July 17th, 2011 and is based in Marina Del Rey, CA. Sarah offers SUP Yoga Teacher Training Certification courses four times per year as well as SUP Yoga Retreats at some of the most beautiful locations around the world and is the SUP Yoga Program Coordinate for Wanderlust and Mammoth Yoga Festivals.

YOGAqua has been featured on countless News Programs, TV Shows and Magazines around the world! YOGAqua has maintained a large influence on the SUP Yoga community since the origination of the sport, setting a high standard in the industry.

YOGAqua and Abrazo connected in 2021, and in 2022, formed a partnership to support each other in the growth of the SUP Yoga community as well as to build the most amazing SUP Yoga Stand Up Paddleboard!
